Life360 gives families people of mind by helping them find the people they love - what about things? My team's goal was to test the item tracker as a Premium feature and increase conversions to our paid service.

Interaction and product design

DESIGN PROCESS

This project had a few objectives:
• Update design and improve overall conversions to our existing Premium service.
• Test the impact on subscriptions by adding a free item tracker.
• Discover any fulfillment issues early with our third-party tracker provider.
•  Get early user experience feedback on the tracker device.

This was a pretty massive A/B test that included shipping the tracker device to those in the B group. Additionally, we were updating the entire visual design and Premium brand within this test.
One of the biggest challenges was finding a cohesive visual presentation for the odd mix of Premium features. It needed to clearly state its benefits to the user, distinguished itself from the free service, and be easy to test different feature sets. We decided on a slide-show format because of its flexibility for A/B testing. This format allowed us to change the order of the slides based on a user's context.

A problem with the current Premium service was visibility. Our data showed that most Premium accounts were created within the first two weeks, so we added a few key areas to bring more awareness to Premium features.
• Now when users are onboarded to the app, we ask:  "Need help finding your keys?" If they reply "yes," they are directed to the Premium trial.

•Added persistent UI on the map: A large percentage of our users only look at the map to locate loved ones. Including persistent UI on the map to "add keys"  below the "add member," functionality keeps Premium features in front of users while also clearly demonstrating its function.
